These days, insurance policies come with high deductibles. One way to pay these high deductibles is by using a flex spending account. This is a special account where you are allowed to place money from your earnings without paying taxes on them. This money can then be used for out of pocket medical expenses. Some employers may even contribute to your FSA as well. At Access To Health in Fort Collins, CO, we strive to bring wellness and happiness to our patients with a hands-on approach to healthcare.
Flex Spending Rules
Flexible Spending Accounts come with some rules. You are not allowed to deposit an unlimited amount per year, it is capped at $2,650 per year per employer. Your spouse can also save an equal amount. You can use the money to pay medical bills, copays, and deductibles but not the actual health insurance premium for all of the members of your immediate family. You can pay for prescriptions with your FSA and with over-the-counter medications that you have been prescribed. It will also cover things like a wheelchair or crutches.
Unless there are special accommodations by your employer, all of the money you put into your account in one year must be used in that year. Your employer can opt to allow 2.5 extra months to use your funds or allow $500 to roll over. Any money left after this time is lost. Some insurance plans don’t cover chiropractic care. This is where your Flex Spending Accounts come in handy. You can use it to pay for whatever health needs you may have. You can pay the bill and submit it to your employer for reimbursement.
